Today’s Brain Crack

TODAY’S TOPICS OF INTEREST:
- Longevity (the life-span kind. Not the Cialis kind…)
- Intellectual Property Rights
- Game of Thrones (the show… and I guess the book)
- Pheromones
- Michel Foucault
- _Altered Fates, Gene Therapy and the Retooling of Human Life_ by Jeff Lyon and Peter Gorner
- The Social Network
- and others…
And the winner is…

As is, unfortunately for my well-being, usual in my life, entertainment wins. Always. It wins until I have the absolute minimal amount of time remaining to fulfull my obligations. Except when I get into self-destructive philosophical naval-gazing moods in which I question the validity of such things as sending transcripts and asking for (necessary) loan forbearances (student loans, btw, suck when you take a year off before finishing college). “Obligations are so bourgeois…”

So it’s best to just churn this out quickly so I can go watch The Changeling.
_Game of Thrones_ is a fantasy novel by George R. R. Martin (aka “The American Tolkein,” as evinced by his middle initials—and partially, I suppose, for his writing), the first of a series named A Song of Ice and Fire and, more to my point, a new, somewhat risky series on HBO. Yes, risky (not risque’, although there is a premium channel-sized smattering of nudity); HBO is gambling somewhat with its first forray into high fantasy (unless I’m forgetting something, which is entirely possible). If you need a further introduction to me and the merit of my opinions:
My name is Adam, I’m a 23 year old got-screwed-over-by-red-tape-12-credits-shy-of-graduation from the University of Illinois with a degree in English (who will be going to my county’s community college to make up the remaining 4 classes, don’t worry) who currently works inside a bank inside a grocery store for not as many hours as he’d like and therefore spends (how did we change perspective? WE???) a lot of time trying to learn everything. I want to learn everything. Screw what that guy said.
“The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool.”
-William Shakespeare
“To know that you do not know is best. To pretend to know when you do not know is a disease.”
-Lao-Tzu
“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”
-Socrates
…or, those guyS. Damn chiasmi. Get me every time… To the review! […later!]
